ARE NON-BIODEGRADABLE PLASTIC BAGS ON THE RUN?
With San Francisco leading the way last March, a wave of environmental legislation seems to be moving through towns and cities across the land. Baltimore, Oakland, Annapolis, Seattle, Austin and Honolulu are all considering plastic bag bans from their retail stores. Waterfront cities are especially concerned about the negative impact of plastic bags on their marine environments as well as their threat to marine species worldwide. Whole Foods and Ikea have also recently made steps to halt the use of plastic bags in their stores. Most dramatically, China has recently announced their intention to ban the bags. |
