| A 2008 New Year's Resolution:
NO MORE JUNK MAIL!
American mailboxes are overflowing with unsolicited, "junk" mail. It arrives almost daily at our homes and offices and it has serious environmental consequences. An estimated 100 million trees are cut to manufacture it creating more than 4 million tons of difficult-to-recycle paper waste each year.
Can it be stopped? Yes it can be stopped (or at least slowed significantly) with just a small effort on our part. Fortunately there are several organizations willing to assist in the cause. New American Dream offers mail-in forms for a do-it-yourself approach as well as a paid assistance program. Free help is available from the Junkbusters on their How you can gain control of your mailbox page . The direct mail industry group, the Direct Marketing Association, will also help for a $1 charge. And, for just $19.95 stopthejunkmail.com will do the job for you with a fully automated list removal service. The NRDC's Catalog Choice service helps you reduce unwanted catalog mailings.
Is 2008 the year to take action to stop junk mail? We promise to act and we hope you will too! ---GLP
