PLA food containers have the same look and feel as plastic but are actually made from processed yellow corn. These containers are fully biodegradable! PLA is manufactured from lactic acid. Lactic acid is made from dextrose by fermentation and dextrose is made from cornstarch.  Additionally, there are no detectable genetic materials found in PLA. Natureworks PLA decomposes naturally within about 47 days.
